Welcome to the RU NAfME Blog! If you’ve come this far, I’m sure you have seen our brand new website. As we all navigate a remote semester, RU NAfME is trying to stay connected and involved with the Mason Gross music community. This blog- along with our plans for virtual events- is our way to do that!
Who is RU NAfME?
The RU NAfME officers this year are Missy Alvarez, Delmarice Price, Hannah Fusco, Elizabeth Monkemeier, Veronica Kulek, Judy York, and myself, Natalie Tews. We will soon be taking applications for a Freshman Representative to join our team! We are all dedicated music majors trying to provide new resources and experiences for our peers.
What is NAfME?
NAfME is the National Association of Music Education. This is a national organization that provides resources and professional development, hosts conferences, and promotes music education advocacy efforts for music educators throughout the country. To be a member of NAfME, you pay a yearly fee. The fee to be a collegiate member won’t break the bank and will get you access to all the national and state level resources, research journals, and webinars that the organization provides. They have been releasing a lot of online learning resources lately!
Do I have to be a member of NAfME?
It is not necessary to be a NAfME member to attend our events or use our resources! We encourage music education majors to become collegiate members to have access to the benefits. Membership is required to attend the NJMEA (state-level NAfME) conference.
What is RU NAfME doing this year?
We will be hosting online events over Zoom during the fall semester. Music majors should read their emails from us to learn more about the events and find the Zoom links. You can also check out the Announcements tab on our website to see what’s happening soon. We plan on hosting game nights, professional development events, and guest speakers.
How can I be involved with RU NAfME?
Follow us on social media and attend our events! We are on Instagram (@runafme) and Facebook (@RutgersNAfME). You can also write a blog post for us! If you want to write for us, send us an email with your idea before you start writing. We’ll get back to you with more information about how to write and submit the post. If you’d like to write for us but you don’t know what to write, feel free to email us and we can help you brainstorm.
This year looks a lot different than we expected but that doesn’t mean that the future isn’t bright. RU NAfME is ready to have a great year working with the music majors at Rutgers and we hope you’re ready to join us on this journey!
